There are a ton of people who stay up late on Apple pre-order night and prepare to get that confirmation email saying the next iPhone will be on their doorstep come launch day. Maybe it’s the ease with which you can order your new gadget from the comfort of your pajamas, or maybe that desire to be first in line keeps you up banging the refresh button until you finally get what you want.
Whatever your reason, if you were planning to use the T-Mobile JUMP! program or AT&T’s Next program to secure your next iPhone, you’re going to have a bad time.Every retail outfit that is selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is currently being hammered beyond recognition, and there’s only one reason why. Demand for these two devices has reached an unprecedented level, and the systems can’t keep up with the constant barrage or requests. Those who have been lucky enough to get through on AT&T and T-Mobile’s websites, or worse have been brave enough to spend an hour or more on the phone to try and secure an upgrade, have discovered that they can’t use the super cool upgrade programs.
AT&T has a warning up on their website at checkout announcing that Next is not available in several regions, and T-Mobile’s customer service reps are informing users that they have to come in to the store in order to take advantage of JUMP! for their pre-order.
If you were fast enough to make it into a T-Mobile or AT&T store before they sold out this morning, there’s a good chance you were still able to get your pre-order in. Otherwise, you’re probably going to be waiting a little while before this hardware is seen on store shelves.
Apple is reporting a 3-4 week delay already for the iPhone 6 Plus, and the iPhone 6 is likely not far behind. On the one hand, this could be part of the rumored supply issues Apple was supposedly having. On the other, reports of 5,000+ users on hold in phone systems and nearly every website with an iPhone 6 pre-order crashing seems to point to an insatiable demand on behalf of the audience. Either way, Apple will surely make a statement soon enough to discuss what has happened this morning.
