The huge success of the iPhone has to do with its ability to sell more devices in key growth markets, including Greater China. The analyst firm Canalys reported today that Apple has put more smartphones in China than any other smartphone maker for the first time in history, and its surge ahead as Samsung and the newest top dog and Samsung Xiaomi usurper should translate to a huge increase in sales of regional unit.
Apple, iPhone owners expressed a firm intention to upgrade their device to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launch, according to ComScore, and a large group of iPhone 4s, 4 and 5 of the owners happened, coming off an agreement in time for the arrival of update.

This whole article is based on the presumption that this is 75 million NEW iPhone users rather that people simply upgrading their device to something that's finally a usable size. Considering the pent up demand for larger screens, I assume it's the later. Market share % boost is much more accurate. Is there a correlation?

Great sales #s on those "finally" full sized phones. Imagine how many they might sell if they ever remotely catch up on features.

Not really. They have the iPhone and that line, iPad and that line, and the Mac line. Then the ‘other products’.
While the iPhone seems (and is) incredibly important for Apple now, in 20 years, it won’t be, just like the iPod a decade or more ago.
