Marvel forcing Google to give up leaker of Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer

Age of Ultron

A couple of weeks ago, the first real trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron was leaked onto the internet ahead of Marvel’s official date to release the footage. At the time, Marvel’s only response was an amusing tweet blaming Hydra, SHIELD’s nemesis. It turns out that Marvel’s response wasn’t just a disappointed-but-amusing tweet, a shrug, and releasing the official trailer ahead of time.

Now, the company is forcing Google to turn over the leaker so Marvel can bring that person to justice.

A federal judge granted Marvel a subpoena to hold over Google’s head as the search giant is forced to turn over the person that leaked the Avengers trailer. The subpoena was granted just one day after Marvel asked — the speed of which showing just how “important” Marvel (and parent company Disney) is. The subpoena states that Google has to bring all information identifying the user, John Gazelle, to court on November 18 in San Francisco.

Marvel also requested entry onto Google premises and access to property possessed by the company relating to the matter, but the judge did not grant the request. Marvel wants the IP address that uploaded the leaked trailer, and it appears the company feels that the leak originated somewhere within its own halls. This makes sense, of course, as it’d be pretty difficult to steal the trailer for what will undoubtedly be the biggest movie of next year.

We’ll see what turns up on November 18, but until then, you can watch the official version of the trailer that caused all the trouble below.
