PC classic Myst will be a TV series

Myst

The Myst franchise is one of those things that you either fell in love with immediately, losing days at a time to the puzzles contained within the various worlds, or you just never really liked it. For many, Myst was a welcomed escape from the dozens of FPS titles and RTS rehashes that dominated PC gaming at time by offering a non-violent and visually stunning (for the time) experience.

If you’ve ever wondered what the world of Myst might look like in a different medium, it looks like you’ll soon find out.

Can the number one game of the 20th century translate to television? That’s what the folks at Legendary want to find out, and Rand Miller himself has given his blessing. Cyan Worlds and Legendary will be teaming up to create a transmedia experience set in the Myst universe. Legendary has a history of delivering fantastic experiences that extend beyond the screen, as we’ve seen with Man of Steel and the recent efforts with Guillermo Del Toro.

Stepping into a Linking Book wouldn’t be an entirely new experience for Legendary, and with guidance from Cyan it’s more than likely this is something that would do right by the fans.

Myst2

It’s likely there won’t be too much in the way of concrete details onthis television show for a little while, but the new is more than enough to make you want to try installing Myst or Riven on your now dramatically more powerful computer to see how the game has aged. Better yet, you can play the original on mobile devices now, which should easily keep you busy until we hear more about this experience.
